This project was shared on the Canvas Corp blog October 31. I am always on the lookout for unique containers to alter for gift giving. I spend a good bit of time at thrift shops and love when I come across well-made pieces that feature hinges that can be easily removed for altering. I hit the jackpot at our local Goodwill one Saturday and scored this fantastic container marked at $3.99 with a green tag that was half off that day. Now, let me show you how upcycled it to follow the theme – Old Becomes New.

Begin by removing the hardware from the box.
Be sure to keep these in a safe location because it is easy to misplace a tiny screw.
Once the metal has been removed, paint the entire piece with white paint so you have a clean slate to start with.

Select the Glimmer mists and Simply Sheer to use on the tissue paper.
I use a box for all my spraying to contain the spray.
For this project, I sprayed four sheets of the tissue.
Sit the tissue paper aside while it dries.
Once the tissue is dried, trim pieces to match the container.

Adhere the tissue to the container using a liquid adhesive.
Once this has dried, continue to decorate the container.
I changed the color of the natural hank using black ink.
I used the same black ink to smudge the edges along the entire container.
Replace the hardware on the box.
Using liquid adhesive add trim to the top and bottom as shown.
Using the same adhesive adhere the flowers to the front of the container and to the lid.

I am thrilled with how this container has been transformed.
